The local machine manufacturer from Ølholm, FSI Stump Cutters, in collaboration with the organization Plant et Træ (Plant a Tree), Hedensted Municipality, Uldum Community Council and local children and adults, are planting 10,350 trees on a green area designated as a conservation forest near Uldum.
“Some might think that a company that produces stump grinding machines has a desire to remove as many trees as possible. On the contrary, at FSI we don’t want to cut down trees, we see that our machines create space and new opportunities by removing the root after the tree has been cut down.” Says Managing Director Kim Schmidt.
A tree for every machine sold
In 2022, in connection with FSI’s 20th anniversary, FSI and Pant et Træ will enter into an agreement to plant 12,00 trees over 5 years, corresponding to one tree for every machine sold in the company’s history.
In the early years, the trees were “banked” at Plant et Træ while a suitable area was identified and designated. The political process of approving such an area takes time, especially when the area is to be designated as a protected forest, political interests must be nurtured and long-term thinking is required.
“Although it doesn’t necessarily take a long time to plant the forest itself, most tree species last 500 years and some up to 800 years,” says Jens Døssing from Plant et Træ and continues “You can’t rush good cooperation. That’s why we have also accepted that things take time in our collaboration. We don’t raise a forest overnight. It can take many years, and there are several reasons for that. So you have to be patient, but in return, children and everyone else will enjoy the forest for generations to come.”
New forest for everyone locally
The forest is a collaboration between Hedensted Municipality, the association Plant et Træ, which is responsible for administration and coordination, and the local company FSI Stump Cutters from Ølholm near Tørring, which is sponsoring the reforestation.
A green area between Skanderborgvej and highway 30 in Uldum is where the many trees will be planted. The focus is on planting native trees and shrubs that are adapted to the soil conditions in the area to create a stable and future-proof forest with many insects, birds and animals. Paths and natural habitats will be created in the forest so you can easily get out and experience the forest up close.
FSI’s Director Kim Schmidt says: The collaboration with Plant et Træ gives us the opportunity to reboot nature and create good, intimate experiences. A walk in the new forest can hopefully inspire people to bring nature closer to their own gardens and thus increase biodiversity.
